LinkedIn - Opening an External Application

This page provides a step-by-step guide, walking you through the process of opening an external application in Linked-In, and configuring Linked-In's application keys in Gigya's website (as part of the Socialize Setup process).

Note: LinkedIn has limits on their API use. To learn about the limits, please refer to the Throttle Limits page in LinkedIn developer's site. You may request LinkedIn to grant you with higher limits, using this form: http://developer.linkedin.com/<wbr/>themes/linkedin-home/form-api.<wbr/>html.

 

Phase 1 - Opening the Application in Linked-In

  1. Enter the following link: http://developer.linkedin.com/community/apis
    and log in.
  2. Hit 'Request an API key'.

  3. Click on 'Add New Application'.

  4. Fill in the following fields:
    1. Company Name
    2. Application Name
    3. Description
    4. Integration URL (The URL of your site)
  5. In the application type choose 'Web Application'.
  6. Set the 'Live Status' as 'Live'.
  7. Optional: choose an interface language and programming tools.
  8. Fill in your contact email in the 'Developer Contact Email' and you phone number in the 'Phone' field.
  9. Paste the following URL in the 'OAuth Redirect URL' field:
  10. Optional: If you are planning on configuring domain alias (CNAME), please replace 'socialize.gigya.com' with your alias sub domain (CNAME value). i.e.
  11. In 'Agreement Language' choose 'Browser Local settings'.
  12. Agree to the Terms of Service and Fill in the 'Security Text'.
  13. Click 'Add Application'.

  14. Copy the "API Key" and "Secret Key" (you will need to paste them in Gigya's website, as described in Phase 2).

Phase 2 - Configuring LinkedIn's Application Keys in Gigya's Website

 

  1. Go to http://www.gigya.com/ and log in.
  2. Click on the "Get Gigya Socialize" tab and then hit the 'Edit' link on the right hand side of the page. Alternately, If you are already logged in, please click on the following URL, which will lead you directly to the Site Setup page: https://www.gigya.com/site/partners/...tate=SiteSetup

  3. Press the "Edit" button that corresponds to the domain you wish to configure. You will be redirected to the "Configure Site Settings" page.

  4. Paste your keys (The "API Key" and the "Secret Key" from the end of Phase 1) in the corresponding places:

  5. Click the "Save Settings" button (which is located at the lower right-hand corner of the page).

 

That's it, Linked-In is configuration is complete! Please note that it might take up to 10 minutes for our system to become synchronized with Linked-In.
